Timpanogas Sleeping Princess
Timpanogas Sleeping Princess
This is the east side of Timpanogos, where it is easiest to see the form of the sleeping princess. Her story is a native American legend where the Nez Perce brave, Timpanac, and the Uintah maiden, Ucanogos, fall in love. In the trial for her hand in marriage Timpanac is killed by the other suitors. Ucanogos witnesses the treachery and refuses to marry any other. She instead throws herself from the mountaintop, pleading for the Great Spirit to unite her with Timpanac. The Great Spirit joined their hearts together inside the mountain, where visitors to Timpanogos Cave can still find them and remember their story. I wish I had room to tell the full story, but you’ll just have to look it up, it’s worth it.
